New Voting MachinesWe have been notified that Kentucky is changing its voting machines in 2006. Other states are sure to follow suit since this is a result of a 2002 federal law and an expenditure of $4 billion of your taxes. The stated purpose is to make the voting machines more accessible to handicapped voters. The secondary reason is to avoid the dreaded “hanging chads” of the 2000 election. We have inspected sample devices in Kentucky. They are called eSlate machines and will completely replace the old machines. The County Clerk assured us that the machines do have the ability to handle a write-in vote, but could not demonstrate it on the sample machine. This page will be updated as more information becomes available with information specific to various states. If you have information to add, please let us know by clicking the CONTACT US link at the top of the page. Type 1: Hart Intercivic's eSlate You can see and play with a virtual eSlate machine here. Type 2: Diebold's AccuVote TSX You can see a flash demo here. |
